SECHSTAGERENNEN
Electronic Spielemagazin, Noris, Germany, 2009
This is the 2009 reissue of a former combination box featuring ten different games, one of which is a simple track-cycling game. At first sight, nothing seems too special about this one. However, the games in this box feature an electronic spinner instead of dice, which makes them different.
Of course, this "electronic" gimmick may have been a novelty back in 1981, when the game was initially issued, but I am afraid it does not make much sense anymore in 2009. I received my game in near-mint condition (apart from the box, which has slightly suffered from storage) and fully functioning. All I had to do was put in batteries. The game looks virtually unplayed, which I am afraid is the best you can do with it.
The first thing you notice about this game is its size: it is quite big. The box measures 43.5 x 43.5 x 5 cm, and the "board" inside is 42 x 42 cm, including the plastic margins with the red buttons.
As you would expect, no cycling-shaped figurines.
The unusual feature about this game is that when you push the button, the red lights light up. Well, one of them lights up ,and then the next, and so on, so that what you see is a red light turning until you push the button again to stop it. This means that you can control the result of the "throw" up to a certain point. Furthermore, there are three possible speeds (slow, medium, fast), and the rules of each game recommend one of them.
For this particular game the speed of the spinner is supposed to be set at "medium", but you can choose your own setting. Since it is quite easy to control the outcome of the spin, I would advise setting it to "fast" unless playing with very young kids. But then, I would advise playing this game only with very young kids, if at all.
In case you read German.
Back of the box where you can see the 10 games included. Some of them not really suitable for young children!
This is the original 1981 version, which included not 10 but 15 (!) games. Thanks Daniela for the
picture.
Thanks to Daniela for first telling me about this game.
