40x TOUR DE SUISSE
Tell Records, Switzerland, 1976

Here is another game included in a vinyl LP. In this case, the game is not intrinsically linked to the record; you do not need to listen to the record to play the game. This one was released in 1976 to commemorate the 40th edition of the Tour de Suisse. That race was eventually won by Hennie Kuiper, but I choose to highlight that the third place was taken by Catalan rider Josep Pesarrodona, who was enjoying the season of his life in 1976.

The game board is found inside the fold-up record cover; it measures 47 x 30.5 cm.

This is how it looks when the tri-fold album cover is fully open.

The simple roll-and-move game rules are trilingual, in the three main official Swiss languages (Romansh is left out). They mention game pieces ("Spielfigur", "pieces du jeu", "figurina") but I have never seen them. They are not present in my record, nor in my friend Marc Radenac's copy either. However, I do not rule out the possibility that the record may have included an insert with the riders. If you are lucky enough to have it, please let me know.

While the contents of the record are unrelated to the game, the first song is called "Tour de Suisse Marsch". However, it is the only song vaguely related to the event they are supposed to be commemorating. (By the way, if you can't read the credits on the picture, you will find them here.) The contents of the record are, well, uninteresting to say the least, even allowing for the presence on a few tracks of harmonica player Marino Manferdini. (You guessed it, in one of my other lives, I am a harmonica player myself.)

The 1976 Tour de Suisse actually started and ended in Murten.

Thanks to Marc Radenac for being the first to show me this game.
